Maya USD Saving to Network Drive issue status?

Hello all,

I have read through existing issues regarding the inability to save USD to network locations, such as: #2745

As mentioned this seems to have been solved in Pixar OpenUSD, and I see the next release of the Maya USD plugin v0.31 may include initial support for USD v24.11.

1. Will v0.31 of the Maya plugin solve the issue of Maya being unable to save USD to network locations?
2. And, when is the planned release for the v0.31 plug in?

Thanks for any clarity you can provide on this issue.

Edit: As additional information, in our environment we are able to save USDA files to a network location on Windows 10, but with Windows 11 we are unable to save to network locations.

Thanks for bringing this up.

We have not explicitly tested the current state of network saving in USD 24.11. We will investigate current state and report back. Note that when it comes to the updates, we only update USD versions once per Maya major release version. So when we do release 0.31, it will not include any updates to the USD versions for older versions of Maya; this means that those saving issues that come for free with USD 24.11+ won't impact/help currently released versions of Maya.

In terms of a timeline, we have a policy of not giving future dates because we are a publicly traded company and need to avoid making statements that could put us at risk legally. We have been releasing at a regular cadence over the last several years, and although we cannot give any dates, we are trying to make it a habit of keeping that cadence.

One of us will respond about the 24.11 state with network saving after some internal testing.

Hello Shawn,

Thank you for the response. In regards to our versions of Maya, I understand your statement that the older versions of Maya USD plug in won't be upgraded to the USD same release. We should be able to move to a new major release without too much hassle, as long as our other dependencies are compatible.

Looking forward to hearing back about the state of saving with Maya USD and 24.11. Great to see the Maya team implementing and supporting USD.

Understand the need to not announce release dates and such as well.
