This was raised in #38. LAI documentation suggests is patch dependent. Not by default the case offline. Comment in #38 suggest this is not the case for online either. From memory this was a limitation in ACCESS-1.3 but rectified in CM2. Nevertheless it is not a limitation of not having the space. The UM LAI variable is carried as LAI(land_pts,ntiles).

Discuss with Ian if we can provide references in online docs.
