An audit of the GCI identified multiple potential changes to the Curation Central page that could improve the user experience.

The requested changes are:

  1. Make the middle panel (Notes for PMID) smaller. Proposed change: half its current width
  2. Make the rightmost panel (Evidence for PMID) larger. Proposed change: twice its current width

Update:

  1. Remove the middle panel, transferring the two checkboxes and notes elsewhere on the curation central page (needs specification)
  2. Make abstract viewable when hovering above PMID in the GCI
  3. Make the rightmost panel (Evidence for PMID) larger (take to fill space previously taken up by the Notes for PMID panel)

Here are more specific UI changes for the Curation Central page as discussed today:

  1. Remove “Notes for PMID:” central panel.
  • Convert this panel to a modal
  • Rename modal as “Notes for Evidence Source”
  • Only reveal this modal if curator clicks “View Notes” link from the evidence source panel (left side panel)
  • Change author list from short version to full author list in the modal (if PMID) or for ClinVar record: Submitter Name, Date, VariationName, SCV ID, link to VCV
  1. Evidence Source Panel (left side panel)
  • Rename from “Select Paper” to “Select Evidence Source”
  • Shorten author list so each evidence source box takes up less real estate
  • Add “View Notes” link to evidence source box (View Notes link is always visible).
  • Clicking “View Notes” will now open up the Notes for Evidence Source modal, which includes:
  • Full author list
  • Same non-scorable evidence box
  • Replace “Other comments on PMID” with “Other comments on Evidence Source”
  • Same checkbox for first published evidence
  • Same full evidence source abstract (if source is a PMID) or comments (if source is ClinVar)
  • Add Edit link to evidence source box
  • Edit link is only visible when within that affiliation
  • Sort by evidence source type: All PMIDs in a list, all ClinVar records in a subsequent list
  1. Evidence Panel (right panel)
  • Split evidence into two panels:
  • Genetic Evidence (new center panel)
  • Experimental Evidence (new right panel)
  • Make these panels wider than the old evidence panel
  • Make subtypes of each evidence expandable or hide-able (Individual, Family, Case-Control, etc)

Summary of major changes to the layout as of Nov 7 2024 test site experience:

  1. Middle "notes" section is now a pop-up modal, clicking on a evidence source (left most column) then displays the Genetic and Experimental Evidence for that source (middle and right columns)
  2. Sub-types of evidence are expandable and retractable by the curator
  3. Icons and explanatory hover-over text denote which sources are a) the earliest report of a variant causing disease in a human and b) have non-scorable evidence.
  4. The classification is now displayed as part of the top banner.

Feedback from gene proxy group:

  1. Add another line to the classification box
  2. Add the first author name to the PMID title bar
  3. Look at adding a "no evidence" text in the sections when there's no curation work
  4. Add "Type:" to the evidence boxes
