I'm not exactly sure if this is possible, but I'll give this a go.

Mastodon has many instances. My instance for example is https://greennuclear.online and so whenever I share a post anywhere, like WhatsApp or Discord, people open it and it opens in the browser. This is a suboptimal experience, as people use apps, like IceCubes, for their Mastodon experience.

Is it possible to open all Mastodon links, regardless of instance url, in IceCubes instead? Again, I'm not sure if this is possible as this 'decision' to use which app might be on the iOS level instead. But if we could get this working, this simple, yet for many expected behaviour would be a big improvement in UX I think.

To answer my own question: one way of doing this is by URI. Here are two sources I got since my OP:

https://fedilinks.org/spec/en/
https://github.com/timbray/fedi-uri
