Chickens reset pattern on net use

Grab a net.
Catch a brown/black chicken.
Place it back down awhile later, its now a white chicken.
Sex / age is unaffected.

Other relevant information.
Convert mobs redo items is checked.
I am in creative mode.
I had 3 full chicken nets at once

Same for cows. Cats seem to preserve their texture when caught and released again.

Maybe it's related to cats simply using the textures field, while chicken and cows use gender specific textures?
