HIFI: Migrate to IBEX

As someone working at ISIS I want all instruments to be on the same control system, HIFI is the last to be migrated.

Acceptance Criteria

1. HIFI is in the list for deploy in January 2025
2. HIFI is added to the list of available instruments
3. Configuration files matching the current SECI config files are created
4. IBEX is configured for the devices on HIFI.
5. HIFI scripts are converted to genie_python
   • consult with scientists as you do this (see the Migrate-an-Instrument-Control-PC page).
   • HIFI scripts are likely to be very similar (if not identical) to EMU's scripts

Notes

1. The devices on HIFI are listed on the HIFI Instrument Details list
2. Check on the following:

• Check whether HIFI uses 5- or 8- digit run-numbers
  • If it uses 5-digit run-numbers, upgrade the ICP program (to permit 8-digit run-numbers)
• Create a virtual instrument for testing purposes
  • Set up a test system, NDXHIFITEST.
  • create IBEX configurations to correspond to their SECI equivalents
  • create genie-python scripts to correspond to their Open-Genie equivalents
    • consult with scientists as you do this (see the Migrate-an-Instrument-Control-PC page).
  • test these configurations & scripts
  • check that all the devices previously supported by SECI (on HIFI) are supported by IBEX.

Note for RF & laser: both use a DG645, for entirely different purposes, and can be loaded simultaneously. So one of them should be set up as DG645_01 and the other as _02 to prevent conflicts/confusion.

HIFI's initial migration is now substantially complete - I'm sure there will be further requests as time passes, but I think we've covered enough ground to meet the acceptance criteria of this ticket.

To review this:

• Point your local client at HIFI and generally see that they are set up in a typical way for a muon instrument.
  • i.e. generally check that there are no great surprises in HIFI's setup.
  • The HIFI scientists have been heavily involved in testing & tweaking configs/setup generally - so this is more about checking IBEX-internal things have been configured as you'd expect.
• inst scripts have been primarily migrated by JL, with some help from us where needed. These have been "reviewed" extensively by the scientists running lots of representative tests & scripts over the last few weeks
  • "review" this by looking at the IBEX journals to see that these tests have happened, and are continuing to happen
