Creation of Geant4 Application freezes when having large GDML files

Hi Felix,
Is there a max limit of 9 contacts ?
Geometry with more than 9 contacts fails to generate gdml (geant4)

Not that I am aware of or at least nothing we implemented explicitly.
Do you have an example config file to reproduce this?

yes it freezes
can not reach up to [Warning: Temporary file tmp.gdml will be deleted.]

Are you running this on a laptop or some powerful computing machine? Maybe its some kind of memory issue?

I do not know what to tell you, because it doesn't throw an error on my side..

I am using this config file, where I just modified materials: 10contactNOTWorking.txt (change .txt to .yaml)

I am getting this GDML file (note that the materials might be different): 10contactgdml.txt (change .txt to .gdml)

What code are you using? I see you are running some tests?

My code (for you to copy) is:

using SolidStateDetectors
using Geant4
using Unitful

sim = Simulation("10contactNOTWorking.yaml")
source = MonoenergeticSource("gamma", 2u"MeV", CartesianPoint(0,0,0))
app = G4JLApplication(sim, source)
run_geant4_simulation(app, 1000)

If you run this exact code with the files I provided in this answer and it freezes on your side, I'm afraid I don't know how to assist..

Can you provide your exact changes to MaterialProperties.jl and materials.xml?
(Ideally create a fork of this repository and push it somewhere, so we can test that on your version of SSD)

The file "10contactNOTWorking.txt" and the code above fail to run (Evaluating forever).

Removing Contact ID 10 from the same configfile runs alright

I think issue is with xml parser GDML NodeIDMap max limit , I am not sure though

Is that a simple solution in the SSD source code? Because if yes, we would appreciate you opening a pull request.
Or is this something in Geant4.jl?

it is in Geant4.jl , i am not sure if "validate_schema" can be passed as kwarg

Looks like you can parse it to G4JLDetectorGDML

which is what we use in our extension.

I turned off validate_schema by default for the file that we create ourselves, and added the option to set validate_schema if a custom GDML file is passed that can then also be turned off if needed.

One question/suggestion, if G4EmCalculator can be custom Cxxwraped, SDD can utilize it for "radius_guess" for charge cloud
