Currently, statusbars are simple text fields.  I suggest adding the following 
functionality:

* Knowledge of error levels (green, yellow, red?)
* Changes display over time:
  * Displays bright text briefly before dimming (marks the reception of new text)
  * Vanishes after a while (5 seconds?)

Creating a timed event for these things requires access to the io_service and 
GUI strand.
