It's optimized for single player using gamepad. which is vast majority of MiSTer setups. dpad is direction of move, ABXY is direction of shooting. If gamepad has 2 analog sticks, then left stick can be mapped for movement, and right stick for shooting direction.
Why does joy 2 need to be mapped for anything in this game? Right now it
controls direction of movement. Are there other games in this core where
joy 2 has to move P1 direction?

Wacko is a twin stick shooter. Joy2 is permanently wired to movement and thus can't be used for fire direction as it also controls movement.
