Like most Pychron users, we use Qtegra as a means to control the Helix instruments, and like most users our computer was getting old (Win7). BUT unlike most modern installers and programs, Qtegra is very particular in how it is installed and IT security has progressed since Qtegra was first developed. For lab computers (shared by multiple users, connected to the network, etc.) the local admin account is often (and should be) disabled.
However Qtegra has to be installed using this account. Network/domain admin accounts won't work. On installation Qtegra generates a number of user groups. These are critical since Qtegra is by default installed to
C:\Program Files (x86)
which contains elevated security permissions within windows. To be sure they are generated correctly, use the LOCAL ADMIN ACCOUNT.For a fresh install of Qtegra on a new computers with Win10, we found success with the following steps:
Local Users and Groups
check to be sure the following groups have been created:You need to assign the following permissions to user accounts that will be accessing the computer in order to open
Instrument Control
, otherwise you will receive an insufficient privileges error.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
