Definition

When a [[Blockchain]] changes protocol, a new chain is created, with the same history as the original.

  • A fork as it now lives in parallel with the old blockchain.
  • Dilutes the value of the chain, as now two exist in parallel

Soft Forks

A fork that requires a software change, but maintains the same protocol is a [[Blockchain Fork#Soft Forks|soft fork]].
