Ticket to collect and track struggles/reasons to drop support (or not) for Python 3.8 (officially end of life since 2024-10-07)

  • problem while working on extract CWL definition from code #1057: I need to work with importlib.resources (from stdlib) but in python 3.8 it is pretty limited, so I had add dependency on its backport (importlib_resources)

Is there a reason to track our struggles given that we already are moving away from 3.8?

yes, I use this ticket's id #1060 as a marker in the code to easily find the spots that can be cleaned up afterwards
