Describe the bug

I have installed openshell on Windows 11 dozens of times. Today I installed a new Windows 11 computer. Windows 11 Home - 24H2. Windows does not allow the program to be installed. A window will appear: Program Compatibility Wizard. For security and performance reasons, the program cannot be installed. I tried everything. The same thing happened to me on another PC

Expected behavior

Cant be installed

Open-Shell version

4.4.194

Could it be that your new machine has ARM processor?

Have the same (or similar?) problem when trying to install on 24H2 (Pro).

Double-click for installing, a notification is shown: Installation is blocked by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. After allowing it: Nothing happens anymore.

Happens with 4.4.194 and 4.4.195 (pre-release) No ARM processor here (AMD Ryzen 5 5600U).

Installation is blocked by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. After allowing it: Nothing happens anymore.

I guess it was not allowed then.
Maybe try again? Download the installer (select to keep the file if SmartScreen will complain) and try to run it again.

This looks like different issue than OP has (he didn't mention Defender/SmartScreen).

It was allowed, tried multiple times.
Really weird, as the installation works fine on other computers before (which did not get 24H2 yet).

I thought it could be related somehow (same Windows11 version, in both cases installation is not successful) - but I guess you are right; these are most likely different problems.

Try to Right-click on the installer file, select "Properties", and then check the "Unblock" checkbox under the "Security" tab then Apply and Okay.

That should (hopefully) allow the installation.

The following is one link that provides a little clarity & help when it comes to the Microsoft Smart Screen...

Could it be that your new machine has ARM processor?

I have that issue too, I try to install Openshell 4.4.195 on Windows 11 (24H2) in Vmware Fusion on MacOS 15.1.1 (Sequoia).
When I try to install I see this (german version) error:

Programmkompatibilitätsassistent

Diese App kann nicht auf diesem PC ausgeführt werden.

Open-Shell
Open-Shell
Diese App kann nicht ausgeführt werden, da sie Sicherheits- oder Leistungsprobleme
unter Windows verursacht...

I enabled Developer Mode in W11, tried to start the installer as Administrator, set the compatibility to Windows 7 but nothing helps.
Does this mean Openshell does not run on that (arm / Silicon Mac / M4 Pro) environment?

Hi. You are right. Last both Computers -> ARM processor. One -> Windows 11 with parallels (on MAC). Second ist a Samsung Notebook with Windows 11 and .. ARM processor.

Thank you for confirming.

I'm afraid so.
Open-Shell simply doesn't support ARM platform at the moment.
We are tracking such enhancement in #553 already.
