I hoped to get a "live" update of the actual usage (best case including reset/start/stop), but it seems that the results are only plotted after the program finished (although -pipe is used)
Maybe I don't understand the extension correctly?

Is this not possibe or didn't I click the correct buttons...

You did nothing wrong! Indeed, the extension waits for the execution to terminate before displaying the profiling data. A live display would be a new feature, but I can have a look into it!

In the meantime, running the Austin TUI within the VS Code terminal gives you a live view of the data (including a live flame graph 🔥). You can then save the collected data by pressing S at any point and opening the file with the extension.
