The Highest Resolution Is 360p On Android 4.2.2

Describe the bug
The app won't play a video if the requested minimum resolution is higher than 360p

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Set minimum resolution to 480p
2. Click on a video
3. See error: "Could not find a stream within the requested RES_480P-RES_1080P resolution"

Expected behavior
The video should play.

Setup:

• Android version: 4.2.2
• Is Your device rooted? No
• Do You use Tor or any VPN service with your device? No
• App source: Github
• App Version: v2.993
• App Flavour: Extra

Additional context
I tried the "legacy player" and "try newer formats" settings as well, but they don't work on my device either.

I know this is caused by Youtube removing A/V streams for resolutions beyond 360p. But there are other apps like Newpipe Legacy Revo and Ymusic that can play these without using new video formats, presumably by streaming Audio-only and Video-only formats separately and synching them on the go.

This app is unusable for me in it's current state.

@gzsombor Should in that case try to implement the methods used in that NewPipe fork by @ShareASmile ;)
(who {SAS} looks like at some point blocked me for unknown reason and I don't know why or when, since I don't remember ever interacting with him in any way, must be a mistake, he btw has too many forks of NewPipe with too many branches - a mess).

The "Try new video formats" option should be disabled by default in this Legacy repo/ver.

SmartTube isn't closed source like YMusic and should also play in HD, unfortunately due to broken GApps, YMusic & SmartTube don't work on my 4.3 system and crash, that NewPipe fork doesn't work either (it doesn't load anything and it even crashes when trying to open its settings and the worst things is that I can't report it to ShareASmile).

@drogga Oh yeah, I forgot about SmartTube. It actually works on my device despite not being optimized for tablets/phones.

I would like to know if you have other YT apps on such old androids that can play in HD without issues and if yes - which, and are you using a mod of YMusic ?, because it requires premium and has ads.

BTW, you don't have to tag/mention me, I'm subscribed and get notified when someone comments in tickets I monitor.

I'm not aware of any other ones after the recent API changes. (though there is Libretube for Android 5) Even this Newpipe fork is rather new, Newpipe Legacy and Newpipe Preunified were unmaintained for quite some time.
Did you download the Ymusic on Play Store maybe? The one I linked to in the main post is a different one and it doesn't have any ads or paid version.

From the site ofc., it's not on PS, there's at least 1 there with the same name, but not the same app and it used to work for me in the past (years ago) and they used to mod it to unlock the premium features and hide/disable/remove the advertisements, if in the meantime became completely free, then I wasn't aware and wonder how the developer is making a profit, also I hate its UI, because it's a music player first + video playback, unless that changed too (doubtful).

BTW, @ShareASmile has 5 NewPipe forks, including Tubular.

My bad, I checked it now and there is indeed a remove ads with premium button in the Ymusic app I have too. But I don't see any ads even though I didn't buy anything or mod the app. Strange.

I also prefer Newpipe/Skytube for videos but use Ymusic when these fail. The download function is more robust as well.

I didn't know about all these forks. I will try to see if any of them works.

Newpipe Revo started crashing while loading videos 2 days ago for me too. (but not on the menu) There is a hotfix update but it has a disclaimer that says don't install on devices older than Android 8.

I use the one called Newpipe Legacy Revo, updated on November 11. I didn't see these updated ones because I was only checking the releases tab on the main page for the updates (which didn't show these other apks.) And that version was working properly until it started giving an "IOS player response is not valid" error.

I tried 3 other versions of the NewpipeLegacy fork (Toss 0.21.3, Conscrypt 0.19.9.7, Flora 0.23.4) but they all have the same error as Revo. I will try them again when this gets patched.

Yeah i saw them, but both kinda heavy for Android 4.3, i used to use Revo build but it wasn't updated yet (or not fixed for Android 4.3)

i've tested this : NewpipeLegacyFlora-v0.23.4-debug.apk

But unfortunately, same issue as others. (Network Error) on hompage, and if Homepage loaded i get Something went wrong while playing any video

@ShareASmile Wish you can read this, i really love your work and i really want to pay for it to work (i use it on my Car and the system is Android 4.3)
