It would be interesting if Sync-in would be included in the Wikipedia Vomparison of file synchronization software

Alternatively, Sync-in could extend its own website with a feature comparison table including the obvious alternatives e.g. Nextcloud, OpenCloud, etc.

Hi @Stephan-P Yes, we will create a comparative table that will be available on the website.
However, for Wikipedia, the contributors must be external to the Sync-in organization; otherwise, it is considered self-promotion.

@johaven the feature 'placeholders' or 'on demand' where files on the server are available through 'symbolic links'. Is that included in the tables?

I don't think so, otherwise there would have been a yes for OneDrive, Next cloud and OpenCloud at least.

Each system calls it differently, which isn't helping the comparison.

Description:
A file that does reside on the server and is not (yet) downloaded/synced to the client IS listed as a virtual file in the client's File browser. If the user decides to open this 'virtual' file, then it is downloaded to the client proper for local processing.

Is this already supported by Sync-in and if so, under which name?

Sync-in supports WebDAV, which allows you to mount a volume on modern operating systems and open or edit files directly from it without having to synchronize the entire volume. However, it is not an on-demand system where files can be kept offline on the local machine; in the event of an internet outage, for example, the volume becomes inaccessible.

Offline file management can be achieved through synchronization, which is available with the desktop clients.
