Relationship between projects, data files, and pattern files

It's unclear to me what exactly a project consists of and how data files and patterns are related to each other and to a project.

For example:

• When I close a data file it appears that I also lose the pattern I was using with it and have to re-import it to use it with another data file.
• Can multiple data files and/or patterns be part of a project?
• Are any settings saved along with the project? Or are all the settings effective across multiple projects?

Ultimately it would be good to have some explanation of these concepts as part of the documentation. Or is there such already?

Each input file has an corresponding pattern file, so closing the input file without saving its pattern will necessarily end with the loss of the pattern. Normally you save the project which includes all input files and their patterns, but in case of possible loss there are automatically saved projects you can recover from.

Are any settings saved along with the project? Or are all the settings effective across multiple projects?

AFAIK settings are separate from projects and no settings are saved within a project, but i may be wrong.

Something else created it. Something running in Wine, no less, so there’s yet another  factor in the dates’s inconsistency. Certainly not ImHex’s fault.
