It seems something is stale about the repo right now compared to the package versions currently available on npm. I'm running node.js
23.3.0 (latest) and associated npm.
Does it work properly with a downgraded npm version?
If not, is there any chance of reworking the dependencies so I can go through the video tutorial? Very interested to learn more about Payload CMS, this seemed like the best video out there for it.

It's better to use the stable version of node, I am running v22.13.1 and it worked.
You can also try installing it through yarn instead, that also worked for me at first before seeing the --legacy-peer-deps flag on the video (Installing it without it didn't work). Did you also replace the mongodb uri on the .env file first? Otherwise you will get errors as you wouldn't be able to connect to the DB.
