How to install a spec file?

I tried placing the YAML file in .config/carapace/specs and .cache/carapace/specs. The documentation references both, for some reason. Apparently that was not enough for carapace to pick it up on starting a new terminal. If the spec file is malformed, would carapace let me know? Is there any way to get debug information?

Next I tried carapace --codegen. Now I have a bunch of go files I don't know what to do with. I'm guessing this is for programmatic use rather than the CLI, but the documentation gives no clue.

I'm using nushell and placed the contents of carapace _carapace nushell in my init.nu.
