Might be beyond the scope of this project but there really is not anything like this available in Linux, so figured I would ask.
If not interested in adding, maybe you or other users know of any applications for Linux that offer what I am suggesting, if so please share.
To me a problem that I have noticed with soundfonts is that there are so many them available and obviously not all of them are going to be good.
I have some approaches that are effective, but there really are not any ways of being able to test many soundfonts quickly to determine which ones are good and which ones are not.
There is also not many ways to view information about soundfont files quickly / all at the same time which can also be helpful to determine if soundfonts are worth using.
This Browser would get its own tab like the Home tab does.
If you look at the GUI provided in Polyphone you have sidebar on the left and info pane to the right.
Folder Tree
Suggesting that on the left side in sidebar would be folder tree like a file browser application, could just be "Favorites" folder locations that user can setup rather than a full system folder tree.
File Pane
The pane on the right would be a file pane (list of soundfont files) with sortable columns for various soundfont data, similiar to how file managers offer.
POSSIBLE COLUMN TYPES
-filename
-file size
-dates
-instrument name (first preset that contains an instrument)
-number of banks
-number of presets
-number of velocity layers
(probably not possible because each preset would be differents but I have just always wanted something like this :)
maybe can show for the first preset that contains an instrument as mentioned above)
(this was already denied here #234 so probably will not get added)
-etc.
I know could just use a 3rd party file manager, which is true, but they do not contain columns for soundfont data, which is what I am looking for.
Allows user to be able to sort this information per column by clicking on column header.
This browser can also be used to open soundfonts within Polyphone by hitting Enter key.
Maybe have the ability to rename / delete files if needed.
This would just give user some information about a collection of soundfonts without having to open up each one at a time. With soundfonts you general do not even known if they are going to contain 1 preset or 128 and up like GM ones do.
I have many ideas about this but not going to mention them all because obviously if there is no interest in the idea, probably not worth mentioning.
Anyways, thank you to anyone who reads this and for any information shared.
Again if anyone knows of anything like this, please let me know.
