Can't open the .erd file. Need help

Has anyone ever run into the following issue:
The editor could not be opened due to an unexpected error: Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open 'file/path/to/file.erd'

I've created a blank .erd file and when it tried to open, it failed and this is the message I received. I'm able to create the .erd.json file with no issues. Anyone know how to fix this?
