Description
The Eclipse and Equinox download areas currently contain many files that are not relevant anymore for current builds and releases:
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/downloads
Actually relevant nowadays are only
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/updates
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/relengScripts
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/downloads/drops4/
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/downloads/index.html
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/downloads/data.json
- https://download.eclipse.org/justj/?file=eclipse/downloads/images/ (only some, i.e. those with recent date)
Similarly for Equinox:
While the new (w.o. php) web-pages are intentionally fully self-contained, I cannot tell if this is also true for older release websites, especially the ones ten or even 20 years old. Maybe they reference any of these old style- or php-files, images etc.
Therefore my proposal is to move everything that's not relevant anymore to the eclipse archive:
https://archive.eclipse.org/eclipse/
Then the files still could be restored if necessary and would be available for reference in case somebody is still interested in them. Plus, there are redirects in place from the download area to the archive for all files available in the latter (which I find awesome).
For example
https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-2.1.3-200403101828/readme_eclipse_2_1_3.html
redirects to
https://archive.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-2.1.3-200403101828/readme_eclipse_2_1_3.html
I would only delete files that look obviously irrelevant for any build drop sites, like
- https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/TIME (a timestamp from 2015)
If anybody has objections, please speak up, otherwise I'll archive all relevant files and folders by the middle of the upcoming week.
