Defaults check is comparing against outdated files

Apparently precheck has the default README and gds from the example repos inside it, which doesn't make sense because it needs to be manually updated everytime there's an update to the default README or the default GDS.

Proposal:
get the README and the gds from upstream using curl, every time the precheck runs.
