Issue or Suggestion Description

The article card array has gaps as shown in the screenshot:

Issue analysis

Obviously, the blank cards appear in front of the article cards that have links in content summaries:

  • Heading titles, such as # Introduction
  • Links to another page, such as Espressif’s Secure Manufacturing Service

Hugo version

This issue appeared after upgrading Hugo v0.120.4 to v0.135.0.

Proposed fixes

  • Avoid adding heading titles right after front matter
  • Avoid adding links in the first paragraph
  • If links or heading title are needed at the beginning of an article, add a manual summary or front matter summary (for details, see the content summaries link above)

Follow-up actions

Suggest applying the proposed fixes to all problematic articles.

Is this issue still present after the last update?

The issue is still present.

Hugo expects the summaries to be in plain text. It is done intentionally to avoid code blocks, pictures, tables, etc., in article summaries. I agree that this is a good approach. Those who came across an article and started reading a summary are interested in what they can learn from an article, they are most likely not ready to click any links leading elsewhere before they open the article.
