This software is pretty much abandoned, so unless you think it can help someone else I would not worry about it. Otherwise, sure, open a PR and I'll merge it.

Oh, for regular usage pastie should work fine, it's just that its development stalled (nothing much to do with it, really, I simply lost interest).

There are several alternatives, it will depend on your Desktop Environment mostly. For KDE there's klipper, and in GNOME environments gpaste works nicely (there's Gnome Shell integration for this).
