I made this comment in the doc, but I'll copy it here so it's more visible:

It's great to have an overview like this, but a lot of this content is copied directly from the analytics.js developer documentation.

Why don't we link to that documentation instead, otherwise it'll get out of sync (it's actually already out of sync).

I wasn't aware the authors drew such close, erm, inspiration from those docs :) I agree with us linking out to the analytics developer documentation instead makes more sense for that item.

@philipwalton could you give us an update on your plans for analytics otherwise (we had that internal thread). On this particular topic, there's also offline analytics which could either go into an overview page or we can reopen #3496.

As for what Google Analytics content should live on /web, I think it makes sense to limit it to content that relates specifically to the topics we cover on /web.

The topics I think we could/should cover:

• How to track usage of a PWA (page visibility, SPA "virtual" pageviews, push notifications, app installs, etc.)
• How to track performance of a PWA (Progressive Web Metrics)
• How to send data to Google Analytics from a service worker (offline analytics)

The topics I don't think we should cover (we should link to /analytics instead):

• How Google Analytics works
• How to sign up for a Google Analytics account
• How to add Google Analytics to a website
• How to do "basic" web tracking

While I know this is outside the scope of what's planned for this week, I think whatever we do now should ultimately be with the above in mind.

@PaulKinlan it does. And it sounds like we're all on the same page. I think there's still the question of what to do with this doc though.

As for my previous comment, I'd be happy to take that on as a project for Q4.

I'm meeting up with Sarah (managing team producing the instructor-led training materials, such as the Analytics doc) on Thursday. I'll discuss with her how best to make sure we don't get into situations like this where we wind up with two (out of synch) sources of information. In other words, how best to synch with /web.
