howto_setup_my_mac_environment

install my prefered terminal:

  https://www.iterm2.com/

  (and save my tab+colors with Save Window Arrangement)

  install dracula theme for iterm

  https://draculatheme.com/iterm

change preferred shell to zsh

  chsh -s /bin/zsh

get command-line tools:

  xcode-select --install

setup github ssh keys:

  ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "jm@landedstar.com"
  eval "$(ssh-agent -s)"
  ssh-add .ssh/id_rsa

  to add keys to github:

    pbcopy <.ssh/id_rsa.pub
    (add to github.com/settings/ssh)
    ssh -T git@github.com
    (if that fails: ssh -T -p 443 git@ssh.github.com )

  to add keys to a server you go into

    ssh-copy-id dev10x

install oh-my-zsh

    sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ohmyzsh/ohmyzsh/master/tools/install.sh)"

setup dotfiles:

  git clone git@github.com:jmcguire/dotfiles.git
  (or if you're using 443: git clone ssh://git@ssh.github.com:443/jmcguire/dotfiles.git )
  cd dotfiles
  ./setup.sh

get the package managers:

  macports: http://www.macports.org/install.php
  homebrew: ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

get basic utilities:

  sudo gem install sass
  brew install lynx
  brew install pandoc
  brew install quicklook-json
  brew install jrnl
  brew install bash-completion
  sudo gem install mdless
  npm install -g tldr

make the mac better:

  # make plaintext the default for texteditor
  defaults write com.apple.TextEdit RichText -int 0

  # make home and end keys go to start/end of line instead of start/end of page
  mkdir -p ~/Library/KeyBindings
  cat >~/Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict
  {
