Multiple GatewayClass support

Hey, does kgateway support creating multiple GatewayClass resources per controller instead of using only the default kgateway one?

I’d like to define two separate GatewayClass instances, for example one for infrastructure and one for application traffic. something like envoy gateway envoyproxy/gateway#2298

Yes that is supported. You need to create a GatewayClass with the correct controller name (controllerName: kgateway.dev/kgateway for envoy agentgateway.dev/agentgateway for agentgw).

then you can customize them by setting different GatewayParameters to customize the gateway. The linked example sets the GatewayParameters on the Gateway, but you can also set them on the GatewayClass.

We have the same question: where can I assign the ControllerName for a controller so that I can create 2 GatewayClasses, each handled by a different controller?

Hi @mloskot , I really don't see how the Helm release name affects the controllerName.

The kgateway setup is initiated here with no arguments: https://github.com/kgateway-dev/kgateway/blob/v2.1.2/cmd/kgateway/main.go#L25
And the controllerName is set to a constant: https://github.com/kgateway-dev/kgateway/blob/v2.1.2/internal/kgateway/setup/setup.go#L208

The fullnameOverride overrides names of all resources a chart creates, typically, but I haven't looked at the implementation of kgateway chart.

Unless there are external limitations inside kgwateway, this looks like an easy contribution to the chart.
