Current behavior

I reliably obtain the following error when restoring an evacuated Incus cluster node with a VM on the Linstor remote storage pool with live migration enabled:

Error: Migration operation failure: Instance move to destination failed on source: Failed migration on source: Error from migration control target: open /var/lib/incus/virtual-machines/test-vm/config/files/metadata.yaml: bad message

Steps to reproduce

  1. Setup a Linstor remote storage pool that uses LVM Thin backend just like in the tutorial
  2. Create and start a test VM:
incus launch images:ubuntu/24.04 test-vm --vm -c migration.stateful=true --storage remote --target node1
  1. Wait until the VM fully starts and live migrate it to another cluster node:
incus mv test-vm --target node2
  1. Live migrate the VM to the original node:
incus mv test-vm --target node1
  1. Observe the error:
Error: Migration operation failure: Instance move to destination failed on source: Failed migration on source: Error from migration control target: open /var/lib/incus/virtual-machines/test-vm/config/files/metadata.yaml: bad message

Additional Info

I performed the file system check from a separate container, but the file system appears to be fine:

So, perhaps, the problem is caused by some stale file system caches left when the VM was running on node1?
