Thought https://github.com/blog/1093-introducing-the-new-github-graphs might imply something cool but our month data is really coarse.

Something like http://mbostock.github.com/d3/talk/20111018/calendar.html, with like one box for each month and different colors for different contributors mixed together, would only take up one or so horizontal lines for most projects. Maybe something like that but stretch/compress the boxes to fit the column, so for a long project with thin month boxes, you'd end up with something more like a horizontal version of Sprintly's quick sort bar (1:55 or so in their demo video).

I guess you mean the charts should be bigger, anyway, not short like it is now? Hmm. Creative portfolio-style presentation might be more something to let people mess with the API to do.
