News on the Custom Form Fields API in v2?

I was roaming around in the dashboard code to gauge how hard this would be to implement and I found that a lot of work was already done right before the v2 release, almost a year ago now.

I wanted to ask the team if there is any timeline(even if vague) for when the design will be finalized and made public. I think it would be a great feature to make plugins/private modifications better and therefore increase the user base.

I made a different post since there is another one but it's about v1 and very old, before the API was even sketched out.
