This PR merges all accumulated changes from develop into master, marking the release of version 2.3.0.

Key changes:

  • Includes bug fixes, utility refactoring and new visualization subpackage from the 2.2.1dev milestone.
  • Major updates for packaging and versioning, including:
    • Removal of setup.cfg in favor of pyproject.toml;
    • Updates to MANIFEST.in and requirements.txt;
    • Documentation template improvements.

The version number has been updated to 2.3.0.
