Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a chat.
  2. Exchange some messages.
  3. On mobile and desktop, new messages don't always cause the chat to scroll to the bottom, or even trigger the "scroll to bottom" button.

Expected behaviour

New messages come into view.

Actual behaviour

Messages are added to the chat, but the chat doesn't move.
