Confusing documentation for wait_for parameter in allocation action

Hey. Looking at the documentation here:

It defines the parameter wait_for as:

Wait for the policy to execute before allocating the index to a node with a specified attribute.

What exactly does it mean to wait for the policy to execute before allocating the index? What is "the policy" here?

Additionally, the type of this parameter is a boolean and not a string as the documentation states.
