is a login necessary? #12271
-
Hi, I am trying to use the open source / desktop app, but it seems to require a login. I would expect that this would only be necessary for some cloud features, and honestly for a data product, the idea of sending any data to another entity makes me disinclined to use it (the data being a) the login email and b) potentially a bunch of other stuff, from a quick skim of the privacy policy). Is it possible to not do a login for a local use only? |

Hi! Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in our open-source desktop app! I completely understand your concern and would be happy to clarify a few things. First, it's important to note that open source means you have full access to the source code, allowing you to inspect, modify, or even build the application yourself if you prefer. However, using the pre-built version of our app does require login—not because we’re collecting data about what you’re working on, but to help us understand how often the product is used so we can improve it. Here’s what we collect: Usage statistics (e.g., how frequently features are used) Additionally, if you prefer, you can build the app from the source code and skip our pre-built version entirely—avoiding the need to log in. Finally, a quick note on our licensing: our application is free for individual use or for commercial use up to 45 days. I hope this clears things up! Please feel free to reach out with any more questions or feedback. |

Usage statistics (e.g., how frequently features are used)
Login information (your email)
We do not collect any of you…
