25.10 will be supported in the next release, named 3.4. Currently support is available in the unstable stage but that is not recommended for usage. But you could test it if you like. Any idea of a time-frame for 3.4 being released? I want to go back to Regolith NOW! 😂

I'm running unstable with 25.10 and it's mostly fine except I keep hitting this bug. Everything else works great, but until that's fixed, I wouldn't recommend for production workloads.

Was forced to upgrade to 25.10 - am now running from the 'unstable' 'questing' 'main'...

gdm3, as usual, didn't start the first time

used a combination of ssh from another box and lightdm to get the normal gnome session back, and get the correct nvidia drivers and to disable wayland in a few key places

regolith didn't start from lightdm or gdm3

needed:

Exec=/usr/bin/regolith-session-x11 in /usr/share/xsessions/regolith-x11.desktop

bad hang at startup...

seeing this:

Seem to be doing well now... For some reason I had an ancient ilia installed, updated to the latest and it's functioning... ilia does seem to be using some kind of light theme while the rest of the system is using dark. 🤷

Would have preferred to just be on 24.04 this whole time, but needed 25.04 to support a specific disk I needed for work, and now pushed to 25.10 by ubuntu eol stuff... Looking forward to 26.04 sometime this summer and then not letting this thing update anything for a few years after that.

Thank you so much for regolith - I've lived inside it for many years now, and had a lot of fun, and done a lot work that I'm proud of.

Thanks for the kind words - this was not my first time upgrading Ubuntu under regolith, so I was ready for some of the things that really tripped me up in the past (reliably completely losing both the display manager and the desktop session).

I am so curious about wayland, it's obviously the future, and most people must be happy with it somehow, but it's only ever caused problems for me. My systems are ATX desktops w/ intel cpu + nvidia gpu + ubuntu, and need to be because in our work we develop software atop mkl and cuda. Is this a rare setup? I know some people believe that amd is somehow better price/performance, or at least somehow better price. Is wayland always bad w/ discrete gpus, or is it just nvidia? Who does wayland actually benefit 😄 ?

I do have a 4k monitor, but just one. But the rest of those aren't me.

I'm sure the developers and maintainers of wayland prefer a smaller cleaner codebase; as a user, I prefer the X11 codebase which functions. 🤭

Yes, I avoid nvidia hardware due to the Linux driver issues. I have had no issues w/ intel or amd hardware for driver support. I prefer to use the wayland session mainly because it feels faster. It's subjective, and it wouldn't be a big deal for me to have to revert to the X11 session if I needed to. In fact until recently I'd been using the X11 session at my dayjob due to VC interop issues w/ Wayland. If you're constrained to using nvidia hardware, yeah I guess X11 is the best choice, but could be wrong.

The Regolith Desktop 3.4 has been released for Ubuntu Questing, Plucky, Nobel, Jammy and Debian Trixie and Bookworm. Debian Testing also updates to the 3.4 version, however there is no official release. This is a minor release focusing on supporting the latest Debian and Ubuntu releases. Power management enhancements and fixes as well as performance and usability improvements to ilia are also included.
