This is weird, this issue doesn't occur with me, at least not for '('.

However I do get this issue with directories starting with '+'. To be more precise, NerdTREE is unable to recognize the path if it starts with '+' and creates an entirely new file in a path relative to the drive root.

Let's say in my current directory I have a directory and a file with the relative path + new_notes/my-note.md. NerdTREE handles it by simply escaping the '+' (which makes sense at first) but this is a problem because trying to open the escaped path (\+ new_notes\my-note.md) will be interpreted as a path relative to the drive root.

Another plugin I use is Fuzzbox which also had this issue and according to the dev this happens with '+' and '>' on Windows. After talking with him he chose to use the full path in such cases:
