Setting DNS Records

Issue details

Currently I am testing Pulumi to see whether it's a good fit for some projects (to be) hosted on Hetzner.
So far everything seems to work just fine. However, I am surprised, that this package does not offer any functionality to configure DNS Records on Hetzner DNS.

Is this functionality planned for the future or should I resort to 3rd party solutions like this one?

Hi @HiImJulien, thank you for your question.

Pulumi Hetzner provider is based on the HCloud terraform provider. They closed a corresponding issue as not planned, specifically with this comment

Thanks for the interest but right now this provider is focused on the Hetzner Cloud API. The Hetzner DNS API is a separate project, which uses a different authentication schema.

It sounds like using the 3rd party provider is currently the best path forward.

However, at this point I am wee bit confused. Is pulumi striving for parity, even if this means missing functionality?

In terms of bridged providers - yes, we are striving for parity. Upstream providers are often owned by cloud vendors (like hetznercloud in this case). We trust that they can make the best decisions around their cloud's provider since they are the domain experts.
