Using a supported version?

  • I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

I am able to use the paperclip to attach things to messages on my mac but my friend is experiencing something odd. He clicks the paper clip icon and then sees this...
Image
and then nothing happens.

He's on Sonoma 14.6.1.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Steps to reproduce

  1. click paper clip
  2. Watch spinning wheel appear
  3. wait and nothing happens

It should popup a dialog to view the local file system and choose a file to attach.

Hi! Thanks for the report and sorry the friend is experiencing this. Does it happen with other apps? Especially electron apps such as VS Code, Slack, Discord. A debug log would also be helpful. (View -> Debug Log). Thanks!

Thanks for the extra info! I took a look but it wasn't clear where the freeze was. Sorry about that.
It would still be helpful to know if file pickers for other electron-based apps are working correctly or not.

is WhatsApp Desktop also electron-based?

I think old versions of WhatsApp used Electron but they stopped using it.
The electron site has a list of apps:
