Summary

Using the following customization:

(setq plantuml-default-exec-mode 'jar)
(setq plantuml-jar-path "/home/USER_HOME/bin/plantuml.jar")

And activating plantuml mode, syntax highlighting does not work

Checklist for pull requests

I'm fine with my code being released under the GPLv2 license
the pull request is filed against the develop branch instead of master
