• Most of these are web apps made from chromium so providing icon names is futile. Instead use generic names to identify the icons so that users can select them manually as required. (eg: chatgpt, gemini, etc...)

I made a few mockups for ChatGPT.

In the first design, I tried to make the 6 parts overlap each other in an interesting way, but what I got was way too cluttered and confusing, and impossible to make work with the Adwaita style. Here it is:

In still wanted to keep the overlaps, so I tried to make them simpler by taking away the 3D effect and keeping the shading:

The iconic 3D effect of Adwaita could be brought back with a background box:

However, the rim lighting on the box was was impossible to dial in, it was always too noticable on a dark background and nearly invisible on a light background.

So, for the third (and currently final) design, I ditched the overlap and brought back the 3D effect to the icon itself. Here it is:

Do you like it? Feel free to request any changes. As you might notice I uploaded pngs, not svgs because the files are still way too messy and not ready for sharing. Once I clean them up I'll post them. Also, you should probably add the "enhancement" tag so the issue is easier to categorize.

Thank you for the feedback, it's very appreciated since I'm also not a design expert. This is a mockup of the opencode dark mode logo.

I've since remade the logo properly so the mockup was no longer necessary. I did both the dark and light theme. I'm especially pleased with how the dark theme (white O) turned out.

I work in Inkscape, but the most important thing is just observation. See how light inteacts etc. I believe the two biggest resources you can study are the official icon template:

and the Adwaita and MoreWaita icons themselves. I just open them in Inkscape, look at the layers, gradients etc. Best of luck!
