I do not know of any implementations of the XML response pattern. I do not know of anyone planning to implement the XML response pattern. Talking to potential new adopters, having 2 response patterns feels like a poor design decision.

To improve interoperabilty and to reduce test burden, I propose that only JSON is supported.
