I'm submitting this as an idea suggestion since cell-set views do support heirarchies and this feature will probably be incorporated into VitessceR whenever this package gets updated.
This came from a project in which we are exploring Single-Cell Experiments involving hematopoietic stem cells and their differentiation which has a theorized hierarchy.

These hierarchies can be formed, as in the base Vitessce package, as columns of ever more specific cell annotations (from least to most differentiated) or instead as a phylogenetic tree. The thought was to perhaps have some sort of phylogenetic tree vizualization for cell sets either as its own view type or perhaps integrated as an option in heatmap
