Running CLI and backgrounding the task

When I start gpclient it connects and outputs a bunch of log info. That's great. Ultimately, though, once it is connected I wish it would drop me back to my shell. But it doesn't do that. I did run the command with & after it and it sort of does what I want, but it would be nice if the client and backgrounded itself. Maybe I'm missing something?

Hi! I wanted the same thing, so ended up writing some functions for the .bash_aliases file.

# Connect to the VPN.
# sudo -b allows you to enter your password before it gets sent to background
# -qq silences most output so it doesn't fill your terminal with logs
vpn_connect() {
    sudo -Eb gpclient connect -qq <address>
}

# Closes the VPN with SIGINT (same as ^C if it were running in foreground)
vpn_disconnect() {
    sudo pkill -SIGINT gpclient
}
