What are you proposing?
Add a remote-server update policy that treats an exact matching binary in ~/.zed_server as sufficient to start. Defer release metadata lookup and update discovery until after the remote editor is running
Why does this matter?
One of the great attractions of Zed is speed of startup. When launching from a WSL shell this advantage is currently lost because on every startup it goes off looking for the remote binary.
