🗂️ MacFossils - Clean Leftover Files Easily

Download Latest Release

What is MacFossils? 🕵️‍♂️

MacFossils helps you find leftover files from apps you have already uninstalled on your Mac. These leftover files take up space and can slow your system over time. This simple tool scans your Mac and shows you what files you can safely remove to free up disk space. It works quietly in the background and gives you control over what gets deleted.

MacFossils focuses on spotting unused leftover files from various applications. It also works well with Apple Silicon Macs and recent macOS versions like Sonoma and Monterey.

Why Use MacFossils? 🧹

When you uninstall software, some files may remain on your Mac without your knowledge. These files include caches, preferences, and support files. Over time, these remnants build up and consume valuable disk space.

MacFossils makes cleaning these files easy. It helps you:

  • Identify leftover files from uninstalled apps.
  • Remove unnecessary data safely.
  • Improve system performance by freeing disk space.
  • Maintain your Mac with low effort.

System Requirements 💻

Before using MacFossils, check these system requirements to ensure compatibility:

  • macOS 10.14 Mojave or later (including macOS Sonoma)
  • Any Intel or Apple Silicon (M1, M2) Mac
  • Minimum 100 MB free disk space for the app
  • Administrator privileges to remove some system files

MacFossils runs well on most Macs made after 2015. You do not need any other software to use it.

How to Download and Install MacFossils 🛠️

Step 1: Visit the Download Page

Click the big button at the top or visit the official MacFossils Releases page to view available downloads.

Step 2: Choose the Correct Version

Look for the latest release with a .dmg or .zip file made for macOS. This file contains the MacFossils installer.

  • .dmg is the disk image installer file.
  • .zip is a compressed archive you can unzip.

Pick the most recent version with the highest version number.

Step 3: Download the File

Click the file link to download it to your Mac. The file size will be around 50-100 MB.

Step 4: Open the Installer

Once downloaded, open the .dmg file or unzip the .zip archive.

You will see the MacFossils app icon. Drag it into your Applications folder.

Step 5: Run MacFossils

Go to the Applications folder and double-click the MacFossils icon to start the app.

On first launch, your Mac may ask for permission to open the app. Confirm that you want to open it. You might also need to allow the app in your Mac’s Security & Privacy settings.

How to Use MacFossils 🔍

Step 1: Start a Scan

Click the "Start Scan" button in the app. MacFossils will scan your hard drive to find leftover files from apps you no longer have.

The scan may take several minutes depending on your disk size.

Step 2: Review Results

When the scan finishes, MacFossils shows a list of leftover app files grouped by app name or type.

You can look through the list to see what files are found. MacFossils will tell you the size of each file or folder.

Step 3: Select Files to Delete

You choose which leftovers to remove. By default, MacFossils selects files that are safe to delete.

Uncheck any files you want to keep.

Step 4: Clean Up

Click the “Delete Selected” button to remove these files. You may need to enter your Mac password for permission.

Once done, MacFossils will confirm the cleanup.
