Problem statement

Joseph Castle edited this page Oct 31, 2016 · 5 revisions

The open.gsa.gov website meets these goals:

  • increase transparency and dialogue about GSA open technology
  • highlight availability of GSA open source code and data
  • meet the requirements of the presidential mandates

We have observed that the open.gsa.gov website isn’t:

  • engaging audiences, and therefore is not inspiring dialogue
  • explaining and providing information about the GSA open data and source code requirements in a way that is both understandable to a non-specialist audience and meets the appropriate regulations

Which is causing these adverse effects:

  • this website is at risk of being irrelevant (not reaching target audiences)

Measurable criteria for redesign success:

  1. Increased awareness
  • website traffic volume and referrals increase
  • our site becomes a model resource for other agencies who publish similar information
  1. Increased conversions
  • use of GSA open data sets and apis increases
  1. Increased engagement
  • increase in time spent on website, repeat visits to site, number of pages viewed
  • decrease in bounce rate
  • non-specialists can get what they need from our site and not be turned away by complex content
