Gnome Search Integration

Jeffry Samuel edited this page Dec 19, 2024 · 2 revisions

Alpaca includes a Gnome search provider since version 2.8.0, this makes possible to interact with Alpaca faster even when it isn't open.

Note

This only applies for users running Gnome as their desktop environment

Important

Alpaca's gnome search provider isn't available yet for the Snap package

How To Enable

When you install Alpaca the search provider will be disabled by default, to change this you will need to open the settings app (Gnome Control Center), then select Search in the sidebar, there you can enable or disable any app's search integration, you can even drag them to change the order in which they are shown when you search.

Features

Chat Selection

You can search for a chat by it's name, once selected Alpaca will open with that chat selected, if Alpaca was already open it will just change the current chat.

Quick Ask

You can start typing a question inside the Gnome search bar, it will always give the option to do a Quick Ask in Alpaca, this will send a message with the text you typed to the default AI model, showing the results in a small window, that question cannot be continued from the window and the messages are not saved automatically, by pressing the save button at the top left corner of the window the conversation will be saved and Alpaca will open if it isn't already opened.
