Pyronaridine was first synthesized in the 1970s at the Institute of Chinese Parasitic Disease [53, 54]. It has been found to be efficacious against chloroquine-resistant strains and has been in use for over 40 years, sold under the trade name Pyramax® (in combination with artesunate). Like lumefantrine, pyronaridine has been found to act through the inhibition of β-haematin formation [55].
