How To: Create a Taxi Service
A service in 1-Click is a specific provider of transportation services that a traveler might use to get to their destination. Types of services include fixed-route transit, demand-response paratransit, taxi, and uber. Services can be configured with information about them to display to users, as well as with availability rules determining which trip requests they show up in. Examples include schedules, service areas, accommodations, etc. Services can also be configured to book trips through 3rd-party booking software, such as RidePilot.
A service may belong to an umbrella agency, which determines which staff users have permissions to edit it.
To create a new Taxi service, click on Services and scroll to the bottom of the page. Enter the name of your taxi service is the box and select Taxi as the type of your service.
Taxi's have 5 types of information that need to be entered, General Information, Comments, Accommodations, Service Area, and Fare.
General Info is where basic contact information and logos are loaded. If the Service is managed by a specific agency, you can optionally assign your new taxi service to that Agency.
Whenever this service appears in a results for a trip plan, a description for the taxi service will be displayed. Be sure to enter descriptions for all the languages supported by 1-Click.
Select the accommodations that this service provides. For instance, if this service does not have wheelchair accessible vehicles, be sure that the wheelchair checkboxes are left empty. Doing this will prevent the taxi service from appearing in a search for someone who asks for wheelchair access.
For each taxi service, you will need to define a coverage area. The service will only appear in trip planning results if the trip falls within the Taxi company's coverage area. You can add coverage area by simply typing the name of the cities, counties, or zipcodes that your service covers. The full list of cities, counties, and zipcodes is controlled in the Geography screen. After you have entered names of your coverage areas, click submit and your coverage area will be built.
1-Click can display a fare estimate for trips on this service. There are 6 types of fares that 1-Click Supports. Select the one that best fits your service.
Every trip made on the service has the same fare. To use this type of service, simply enter the flat fare.
Each trip has a flat initial charge and then an additional charge for each mile. TO use this type of fare structure, enter the base fare and the mileage rate.
Zone fares are fares where the specific locations that you travel determine the fare. To use zone-based fares, create all the zones in the same way that you created coverage areas and then define the fares to travel between the zones.
In the example below, two zones are created. Zone A is Suffolk County, and Zone B is Norfolk County. The cost to travel within Suffolk County is $5. The cost to travel within Norfolk County is $7. The cost to travel between the counties is $10.
Taxi Fare Finder is a service that provides taxi fare estimates using the Taxi Fare rules specific to individual cities. To use this type of fare, enter the city name supported by Taxi Fare Finder.
If you select Empty, no fare will be shown for the service.
If you select URL, then instead of estimating the fare, a URL will be displayed to the user. The user can click the URL and be taken to a page with full fare information.
The final step is to publish the service. The service will not appear in any results, until it is published.
